The apex of eroticism in the Tarzan series was here until the Hays Code ruined it. Weissmuller here at times almost looks perilously on the verge of being naked, and it only adds to his appeal in more ways than one. It adds a layer of vulnerability rather than invincibility combined with Weissmuller's lean toned figure. The Hercules bodybuilder look doesn't work with Tarzan, and Weissmuller mastered it here, by looking both commanding and vulnerable at the same time.
